• The Community Hub

A place for Connection, Fun and Growth

  • What is the Hub?

The Hub is something new. It's an idea. It's a beginning. It's work in progress.

    What it IS

    • A safe and nurturing space to be yourself, connect with others, have some fun and grow as people.
    • A place of spaciousness and ease.
    • A space to be curious and open-minded
    • A place to share what you are up to in the world, and what you are celebrating.
    • A place to try things out, to bring a challenge you are working with, to share something new.
    • A chance to be seen and heard by a supportive group of people.
    • Time for connection with others through discussion and play.

    What it MAY become

    • A Hub creating both on-line and in person connections.
    • A place to hear interesting and inspiring speakers.
    • An invitation to be more playful and be willing to be stretched, be willing to be different.
    • An opportunity for sharing what it is that you are up to in the world with The Hub Global Community.
    • Structured time to be together but with the flexibility to adapt to what comes in the moment.
    • A membership site for people whose beliefs and values resonate with those of the Hub.

    What it is NOT

    • A typical business networking group
    • A therapy group.
    • A woo woo out there spiritual lentil munching navel gazing group.
    • Just a plan to make the facilitators rich.
    • A place to be judgemental and make comparisons.
  • Is The Hub for you?

Wondering if The Hub might be right for you - read on.....

    Who it is FOR

It could be for you if....

    • You know you want more from life.
    • You are willing to be curious and self-reflective.
    • You want to be free to be yourself, and to be seen and heard for who you truly are.
    • You want to make a positive contribution to the world.
    • You are open to having more fun and finding more joy in your life.
    • You know the power of feeling part of something.
    • You are open to inspiration.
    • You enjoy and are open to collaboration.
    • You are willing to be supportive and encouraging of others.
    broken image

    Who is it NOT for

It's probably not for you if....

    • You already have all the answers.
    • You are judgemental and critical of others.
    • You like to stay firmly in your comfort zone.
    • You always ask 'what's in it for me?'.
    • Making money takes priority over making a positive contribution to the world.
    • You have a need for everyone to be certificated, accredited, and tick all the qualifications boxes.
    • You just want more people to sell your products or services to.
    • You believe life is a competition.

    The On-line Hub

We're going to be experimenting with ways to create connection, fun and growth on-line.

Face to face connection has a quality which on-line interaction just can't replicate (just think of the hugs), but we know that very meaningful connections can still happen right here. So, if you are interested in what we're up to but unable to join us in person watch this space.

  • An Invitation to Try Something New

This is how we invited people to the first event in May

Community Hub for Connection, Fun and Growth

If you can answer Yes to some of these questions then this could be for you:-

    • Are you self employed, or working from home, or for a small business (or wanting to be)?

    • Do you sometimes feel isolated in your work?

    • Could more real human connection spur you into taking more action?

    • Are you willing to be self reflective and curious?

    • Do you have an open mind and a willingness to try something new?

    • Is making a positive contribution to the world important to you?

    Would you like to:

    • connect with other like-minded people?

    • be inspired by hearing what other people are up to in the world?

    • share what you are up to in the world, in a supportive space?

    • be able to ask for help, or share an issue you are facing, with the support of the group?

    • share laughter and fun with others just because?

    • learn something new? and,

    • gently stretch your comfort zone?

    Friday 19th May from 10am until 1pm

(Doors open from 9.45 for a cuppa before we start)

Studio 1, Hawkwood College, Painswick Old Road, Stroud GL6 7QW

The intention is that you come away from the session feeling nourished by the connections you have made, the fun you’ve experienced and the growth that has gently taken place whist in the company of other extraordinarily ordinary human beings, just like you. And of course by the homemade cake.

This first session is an experiment and if it sounds like something you’d like to be a part of please do book your place. There is no charge for this pilot event - it is my gift to you in return for your willing participation and honest feedback at the end of the session.

  • The Blog

Thoughts, reports, ideas, confessions and more....

On Friday I tried something new – I was a guinea pig of sorts trialling a pilot idea for a community hub aimed at people running their own businesses. Held at Hawkwood College, an independent education centre overlooking the Stroud valleys, the event’s objective was to offer a place for...

"What does Alison want?” That was the question I was asked by Lorrie, the wonderful Canadian life coach I met in Bali earlier this year. Seems a simple question doesn’t it? But oh, what a shock to my system. What do ‘I’ want? I just didn’t know and up until that very moment that I didn’t know...

    Who am I?

    Alison Coates

I'm a co-founder of The Story Party (Stroud), a Life Coach, a mother, sometimes a photographer, sometimes a celebrant, a willing collaborator, a sister, a daughter, a friend and a wannabe speaker and writer, and a person who is able to 'make things happen'.

    broken image

    Why this?

What's your motivation for creating The Hub?

I've been self-employed for the past 17 years with varying levels of success and income. What I have found most challenging in this time has been the isolation of working from home and limited connection with other people. What I have found most uplifting and nurturing has been when I have been a part of a group or community which creates real meaningful connection and a safe space for sharing what we are up to, challenges we may have and having some fun along the way too.

    Why Now?

What's made you do something now?

I've been fiddling around with what to do for a long while, not feeling certain, feeling the need to hide, being unwell with ME/CFS, suffering with depression, overcoming addiction. For the past 5 months I have been a part of a small group who set up the Story Party (Stroud) and we’ve been coming together for connection, fun and growth - and it has been amazing.

My usual procrastination/perfectionism has given way to just get on with it - spurred on by the Screw Work Break Free 30 Day Challenge I’m taking part in this month. During the 30 Day Challenge we are encouraged to take an idea and test it out and deliver it in some form by the end of the month. It feels like a permission slip for taking action! So I am taking action….

    What's Next?

What's the next step after the Pilot Session?

My bigger vision is for creating an online community with a membership option which includes face to face meetings on a regular basis. The website will include resources and information, details of members and what they are up to in the world, space for members to promote their work, links to inspiring videos, blog posts, and reflective book reviews.

My intention is to hold regular events to create a community of connection, fun and growth which allows and encourages people to be more truly themselves in their work, their relationships and their world.
